Afeni Shakur, mother of legendary musician Tupac Shakur, dies at 69.

Mother of the late legendary musician and rap icon Tupac Shakur, Afeni Shakur died on May 3, 2016, after suffering a cardiac arrest.

According to Marin County Sheriff’s Lt. Doug Pittman, paramedics arrived around 9:30 p.m. and Shakur was rushed to Marin General Hospital, where she was treated for about an hour before she was pronounced dead.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office confirmed it on Monday night.

Renown rap artist #Tupac Shakur's mother Afeni Shakur-Davis, age 69, died late last night in Marin County.

Deputies from the Sheriff's Office responded to her Sausalito, California, home around 9:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a possible cardiac arrest. The department tweeted,

 Deps responded to report of poss cardiac arrest @ 9:34PM last night @ her home in Sausalto, trans to hospital where she died @ 10:28PM.”

Born Alice Faye Williams in North Carolina, she changed her name to Afeni Shakur when she became a member of the Black Panthers. She was accused of taking part in numerous bombings as part of the revolutionary black nationalist, arrested and freed on a $100,000 bail.

After her son Tupac was shot to death in a drive-by shooting, Afeni Shakur founded the Georgia-based Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation which provides art programs for young people.  

She was the subject of Tupac's 1995 song "Dear Mama," detailing his rebellious childhood and praise for his mother. "You are appreciated," he tells her. "Ain't a woman alive that could take my mama's place."
